Anyone who thinks that without the right connections raw talent goes unrewarded will have to think again. From start to finish, Sergent Garcia (he was born Bruno, but as a schoolboy he was nicknamed "Sergent" after the comically ill-tempered character in the Zorro television series) has done it his way, and now he has arrived. Reggae, Rap, Son and Salsa are all whipped into a froth, and what comes out is an exciting Afro-Cuban sound that jokes, loves, parties and philosophizes as Sergent Garcia spins out his unique view of the world. It's easy to get into this music because it gets so easily into you. Festive, light-hearted and danceable, it will set your fingers drumming and your feet tapping. It's as if a band had assembled spontaneously on the street in some multi-cultural neighborhood and just started playing. There's no defense against this music's vitality and good humor.
